Approved Museum Scheme

Introduced in 2003, the Approved Museum Scheme (AMS) is an artefact donation scheme with the aim of encouraging cultural philanthropy and helping public bodies in Singapore augment their collections through artwork/artefact donations. This donation scheme applies to both corporate and individual donors and under this scheme, tax deduction is granted to artwork/artefact donations made to organizations with the Approved Museum status.

Museums owned by public organisations can apply to the NHB for the Approved Museum Status. Starting 1 Apr 2006, the Approved Museum status may be given to non-profit collecting institutions established to acquire any collection of artefacts and making them accessible to the public. Approved Museum statuses are valid for a period of 5 years & subject to an administrative fee of $250(excluding GST).

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced in Budget 2009, 2010 and 2011 that all qualifying donations made in calendar years 2009 to 2015 (i.e. 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2015) would qualify for 250% tax deduction.

Membership Criteria

In Budget 2015, it was announced that in line with SG50 celebrations, the rate of tax deduction would be raised to 300% for qualifying donations made between 1 Jan 2015 – 31 Dec 2015.

Subsequently, the scheme would be extended for a further 3 years and donations made between 1 Jan 2016 – 31 Dec 2018 would enjoy a tax deduction rate of 250%.
